Letter to Santa

It's that time of year again. Everybody starts asking what it is you want for Christmas (I'm as guilty as the next, asking what people want as well). I always feel weird making a list. We are such a consumption-driven culture and I have so much already. Yet I love opening things under the tree.

Anyways, here's a list of things I've been eyeing, in no particular order. Or if you prefer, you could make a donation to your favorite charity or mine. I certainly don't expect to receive everything on this list. It's just things I've seen that caught my eye, but that I would probably not buy myself. It also lets you know where my tastes tend to run.

The Complete Far Side 1980-1994

I Feel Crafty tote bag. Or even better, a knitting bag that I can keep all my needles in.

A good Italian cookbook. I don't have a specific title in mind. But I want something with good sauces and risotto recipes.

I would love the new Millennium Cookbook, The Artful Vegan. (I have their other cookbook.)

Massages! I would love gift certificates for massages at Re:Fresh Spa, a local spa in San Francisco that I really like.

I don't have a knitting project in mind, but I would never turn down yarn. Any kind of yarn. Or cool pattern books. Noe Knit is a local yarn shop that has lots of neat stuff as well as classes.

The Jungle Book on DVD. I know, I know, it's Disney. But it's the Jungle Book! I love that movie!

The Beatrix Potter/Peter Rabbit Wall Calendar. The only place I've found it the past few years is from Amazon.com in the UK.

A page-a-day calendar for my desk at work. I don't have a specific one in mind. I like ones with quotes by women, or the 'for women who do too much' series.

Miss Potter DVD

Gift Certificates to the following places would be appreciated:

  • Pinkies, the nail salon in my neighborhood. They have a book of coupons for pedicures.

  • Amazon.com

If you'd like to get me something Beatrix Potter, I collect the figurines from Beswick or Royal Albert. Not the new ones from Border Fine Arts. The Beswick and Royal Albert ones are getting harder to find, but they are still around.

And there are things that I always enjoy, such as:

  • Milk chocolate, such as Droste or Lindt

  • Plants or flowers. Especially flowering plants

  • Shower gels, lotions, and the like. Especially Crabtree and Evelyn's La Source

  • Candles, especially fruit/berry scents and gentle vanillas

  • If you're thinking of clothes, I prefer deep v-neck sweaters and shirts, in rich jewel tones, that aren't real bulky. Size XL or 1X.

And there is always my slightly out of date Amazon Wish List with other movies and books I'm interested in.
