Fire in the Hole!

This weekend E put a veggie burger in the microwave to heat it up for lunch. He put it on a plate, a plate that has gone into the microwave many times before. But this time when he put it in a pressed "start" we heard a "ffzzzztttt! fffzzzttt!" and I swear I saw sparks inside.

We opened it up, looked at the plate. Yup. No hidden metal. He put the burger back in wrapped in a paper towel and again we got the "ffzzzztttt! fffzzzttt!" with more sparks. This time on inspection of the inside we saw brownish/black burn marks on the side where the microwave magic comes from.

While it's tempting to hold on to it for Fourth of July, we're trashing this one and I bought a new one last night. Funny thing was, I got the updated model from Sears. And this one was $10 cheaper than sparking one I bought in 1998. Though E pointed out that with inflation, and considering my income in 1998 compared to now, that old microwave was a heck of a lot more expensive than the new one. Just interesting to think about.

Injury Update

The good news is that the road rash on my forehead is pretty much healed (it's just a little pink). The stitches came out this past Monday, and it too is healing well. It's too early to tell if I'll have a scar, but it looks like if I do, it won't be a Frankenstein-Scare-The-Neighborhood-Kids type of scar. Which is probably for the best.

The bad news is that I'm still not right in the head. Heh. Yes, I know we all knew that. Apparently effects from a concussion can take 8-10 weeks to go away. I now know this because I went to the doctor yesterday afternoon. I'm unsteady on my feet (as evidenced by the numerous bruises on my arms and legs from walking into things), find it next to impossible to think on a level beyond 'boil water, add pasta' type level, am nauseous most of the time, and just want to curl up in a ball and sleep. Oh, and my face still hurts. A lot.

So, to make sure that these symptoms weren't an indication of something worse, I went to the doctor yesterday. He said he thinks I'm fine, I'm just going to be feeling like this for a number of weeks. Great. He did give me something stronger for the face pain (yay Tylenol with Codine!) and some other stuff for the dizziness and nausea. So far it seems to be working. I slept pretty well last night and my tummy hasn't bothered me so far today. Yay.

Now, if we can just get the thinking part working again it will be all sunshine and roses around here.

"Doctor! My brain hurts!"

Unbeknownst to me, I apparently I made a New Year's resolution to use up all my sick days in the first month of the year.

On the way to work today I tripped and fell in the middle of the street. I was crossing 2nd St at Brannan when I suddenly felt myself trip, recover, wait no, recover, CRASH. Face first down on the pavement. I somehow made it to the office, about a 1/2 block away, blood streaming down my face. Not one person stopped to see if I was okay.

I scared the crap out of everyone at work though. They thought I had been beat up for my iPod. No, just me not being able to walk. Everyone at the office was great - getting me tissues and ice and calling a cab to the doctor. R went with me to the urgent care center. 3 stitches and a mild concussion later I'm back at home, feeling definately worse for the wear. The Dr said that I should feel like hell tomorrow.

Own Worst Enemy

I'm off to put on comfy pants, eat some crackers and ice my face. At least I didn't have any client meetings this week. If it wasn't so painful I'd be laughing at the stupidity of it all.

Happy Birthday, Little Bro

Happy Birthday Tim! Today my little brother turns 31. I can't believe it.

Tim, I'm so proud of you! You are a great father of three wonderful and amazing children. You went back to school on your own and got your degree. You work hard in a tough field (social work).

In true-to-form big sister fashion, here's the most embarassing photo I have of Tim on my computer. I could have waited to go home and scan a better one in, but this will do. Especially since it isn't that great of me either (that's my bestest childhood friend Jennifer in the middle).

Me, Jennifer & Tim

Happy birthday Timmy. I love you.
